The Indonesian National Police have received a report from Rachmawati Soekarnoputri regarding a dispute over the film titled Soekarno. National Police Chief General Sutarman stated that his team is currently gathering evidence for the accusation.
"We have received the letter, and I have distributed it to the Head of Criminal Investigation for follow-up," said Sutarman at the National Police Headquarters (18/12/2013).
Rachmawati requested legal protection from the National Police Headquarters concerning a copyright infringement lawsuit allegedly committed by producer Ram Jethmal Punjabi and director Hanung Bramantyo in the making of the film Soekarno.
According to Sutarman, his team will study whether there was a copyright infringement or not. If, after examination, an infringement is found, the police will escalate the case to the investigation stage.
"We will certainly look into every legal violation. If it is proven with sufficient evidence, we will take action," he said.
As previously reported by Bisnis.com, Rachmawati Soekarnoputri's legal counsel, Turman Panggabean, reiterated that the film Soekarno would not exist without the meeting between his client and Hanung Brahmantyo, the film's director.
"Rachmawati only wants copyright recognition. After that, the film will be withdrawn. If that is done and they want to continue with the film, it can be discussed," said Turman after the trial.
The plaintiff's side also denied that Rachmawati's objection was due to the main actor not being Anjasmara.
